USS Fort Snelling LSD-30 Story:    Reported on board December 19, 1955. Boy were they glad to see me! Another watchstander! They put me on watch at the electrical switchboard. I had to get up early and make coffee. The first time I made coffee, Weiskettle(?) told me to go to the battery locker and use cold water. He forgot to tell me that the cold faucet was cold sea water! When he came up for coffee, he spit it out an uttered a lot of words I had never heard. The only thing I understood was "Salt Water".
I stood a lot of watches sleeping by the Gyro in the IC Room 01-91-0-C and showed a lot of movies. I remember having to ride the boats to go to other ships and swap movies. I learned to drive using the ships Chevy pickup truck. I obtained my Government Drivers license before I had a civilian license. Had to drive to NOB to get movies. I remember one movie "Port of Hell", a terrible movie, but, it had the first "Roadrunner" cartoon. We used to get that movie frequently and just show the cartoon, then show another movie.
I was blessed by a good division officer CWO E.C. Brown, who recommended me for ever rate test that come along. I was able to make IC1 before I left the ship in May 1959. Great learning experience, many thanks to all who had a part in helping me grow up.
Anyone know John Suteu IC3 who was on board in 1954?

This is what I looked like in 1955 when I reported on board December 19, 1955.

This is what I looked like in 1965 when I served in USS Northampton CC-1
